Farmville – Tree and Animal Profit Values

July 11, 2009
In FarmVille you now have the ability to harvest your animals in addition to your crops. So below I have compiled a list of profits for trees and animals. I am assuming that the initial cost of all of the items listed below is zero since it’s possible to gift these items to yourself.

*This is how much you would make per week if you were able to completely fill a single farmable plot with this animal/tree. It should be noted that the horse and cows take up twice as much space as the other animals. This is why the lot profits for them are so low.
**This animal was only available for a limited time.

The only reason I tend to recommend against these plants is that they are rather fragile in terms of how easily they can die. That is to say, if you do not harvest them in a timely fashion you can lose the entire crop. That’s why I prefer to stick with wait times which are 1 day or longer. However, if you can keep these harvested on a regular basis, they have a higher potential than most of the other plants.
Explanation of Tables
Because there has been some confusion with regard to the above tables. I’ve added this section to help explain what the numbers in each column represent.
Cost: This is how much it costs to plant this kind of seed in an already plowed field. This is the listed price and it does
not take anything else into consideration

Sell Price: This is how much money you get when this plant is harvested. This is the listed price and does not take any
other factors into consideration.

Time (days): This is how many days it takes for the plant to mature. For plants which mature in less than one day a value less than 1 will be displayed. These values are arrived at with the following formula.
Time (Days) = Time(hrs)/24
Weekly Profit:(Assuming 24 hr days) This is how much money you would make if you planted the same crop and harvested it at the same time every day for a week. It should be noted that a farmville day is 23 hours. The reason this is listed is because it may be impractical to harvest every 23 hours, since this would result in having to harvest it one hour earlier every day. Additionally, these numbers take into account the plowing cost of 15. The formula used is as follows.
Weekly Profit = 7 x ((Sell Price – (Seed Cost + 15)) / Time)
Weekly Profit: (Assuming 23 hr days): This is how much money you would make if you planted the same crop and harvested it as soon as it was ready and did this for a week. Keep in mind that this is the theoretical maximum and unless you’re willing/able to harvest at all hours of the day your number will end up being slightly lower. Because plants that take less then one day were already on an hourly basis the formula is only altered for those plants with harvest times of 1 day or longer.  The formula is as follows
Weekly Profit =  7 x 24 x ((Sell Price – (Seed Cost+15)) /(Time *23))
Hopefully, this will help everyone understand the above tables. While it’s true that I do not actually list the plowing cost of 15 anywhere in the tables. They have been taken into account.

FarmVille – Power Leveling

July 8, 2009
Since there has been a fair amount of interest in the topic, I’m going to talk about leveling. In farmville you gain experience by doing the following tasks
Task Experience
Cost
Plowing 1 15
Planting a crop with a duration of less then 1 day 1 Seed Price
Planting a crop with a duration of  1 day or longer 2 Seed Price
Tending Friend’s Farm (first 20 friends visited) 5 Free
Tending Friend’s Farm (after first 20 friends visited) 1 Free
Now, as you can see tending someone else’s farm not only gets you the most experience but it also doesn’t cost you anything. Unfortunately you can only do this once per day. So unless you have a lot of friends this is not an effective way to level.
So, we’re going to look at the other two tasks. Obviously, the faster the growing time is the more often you will get to plow and plant. Therefore the fastest growing plants allow you to level the fastest. or at least they would be if we had to wait to re-plant and re-plow the field. A very simple but costly way to level even quicker is to simply use the delete
tool to remove all of your fields. Once you’ve done this you can immediately re-plow and re-plant your entire farm.
Now, because though the cheapest seed you can buy costs $10, you will want to purchase the $15 seeds. This is because for only $5 you gain twice as much xp. In any case this means that you can effectively purchase 3 experience points for $30. The downside of course is that you lose time and money in the process. Additionally, you must confirm every single deletion. This tends to become very tedious as an unexpanded farm can have up to 144 plots.
Of course to fully maximize your farm, you want to make sure you have enough money left over to re-plow and replant whatever it was you were normally growing. That way you don’t go completely broke from power leveling your farm.
Below is a break down of how much money you need to keep in reserve to do this, based on how big your farm is..
Plant 12×12 14×14 16×16 18×18 20×20 22×22 24×24
Strawberries 3600 4900 6400 8100 10000 12100 14400
Eggplant 5760 7840 10240 12960 16000 19360 23040
Wheat 7200 9800 12800 16200 20000 24200 28800
Soybeans 4320 5880 7680 9720 12000 14520 17280
Squash 7920 10780 14080 17820 22000 26620 31680
Pumpkin 6480 8820 11520 14580 18000 21780 25920
Artichokes 12240 16660 21760 27540 34000 41140 48960
Rice 8640 11760 15360 19440 24000 29040 34560
Cotton 12960 17640 23040 29160 36000 43560 51840
Peppers 12240 16660 21760 27540 34000 41140 48960
Pineapples 15840 21560 28160 35640 44000 53240 63360
Watermelon 20880 28420 37120 46980 58000 70180 83520
Potatoes 21600 29400 38400 48600 60000 72600 86400
Corn 23760 32340 42240 53460 66000 79860 95040
So, now the only question is “how many plots can I do while still being safe?” and it is easily answered by using the following equation.
# of Plots = (Total Money – Reserve Amount)/25
I’ve tried the above strat and have had a great amount of success with it. In a trial run I was able to gain 3 levels in a single day while still being left with a substantial amount of cash. Hopefully in the next few days I’ll be able to max out my level which will allow me to complete my price analysis of the crops in the game.
On a side note I would like to thank Mugambo for putting me on to this strategy.

FarmVille – Leveling Costs

July 15, 2009
farmville1
So, I’ve been looking over the numbers in terms of leveling. To this end I considered several scenarios. I won’t go though the full numbers of each since that would make this post probably 3 pages long. But the scenarios and their results are posted below. In each situation I assumed that you started with 144 of the chosen crop ready for harvest and $0.
Scenario 1 (Peppers and Soybeans)
Strategy – Plant Peppers and power level using soybeans
Result - 1,540 xp gained and $18 left over
-
Scenario 2 (Strawberries and Soybeans)
Strategy – Plant and harvest strawberries all day, at the end of the day before the final strawberry planting, power level using soybeans.
Result – 2,592 xp gained and $0 left over
-
Scenario 3 (Cherry Trees and Peppers and Soybeans)
Strategy - Maximize tree placement excluding edges and 12 plots, which are preserved for peppers. After harvesting everything, power level using soybeans and then replant the peppers.
Result – 1,389 xp gained and $24 left over
-
Scenario 3b (Orange Trees and Peppers and Soybeans)
Strategy – Same as scenario 3, but replace cherry trees with orange trees
Result - 1,436 xp gained and $24 left over
-
Scenario 3c (Orange Trees and Strawberries and Soybeans)
Strategy - same as scenario 3b, but replace peppers with strawberries, harvesting them at every opportunity.
Result - 1,505 xp gained and $0 left over.
Now, you may be asking yourself. Why bother with trees or peppers then? If strawberries are so much better? Well, the other situations actually result in more money. The Profit each day if it had not been spent power leveling would of been.
Scenario 1 - $11,088
Scenario 2 - $8,640
Scenario 3 – $12,534
Scenario 3b – $13,824
Scenario 3c – $13,620
So, now you might be looking at this as I did and wondering. Why does it look like the less money I make the faster I’ll level?
This one I’ll admit had me stumped for awhile. Basically, what happens is that while you do make more money, the amount you have to spend on each xp increases. So, even though you might have more money you can’t actually purchase as much xp. This is represented by how much it costs you to replant all of your seeds, thus leaving you with not as much money to power level with.
Below, I’ve broken the values down per as they are for a single field. Looking at how much xp you can gain per day, if you were to spend all of your profits power leveling. Peppers still do better then any other crop that takes a day or longer. But it lags behind the sub day crops simply because it is so expensive to plant.
Plant Total Cost Per day Xp Gained Cost per Xp Profit Per day Xp via PL Total Cost per Xp Total Xp Per day
Strawberries 150 12 12.5 60 6 11.67 18
Eggplant 20 1.5 13.33 24 2.4 11.28 3.9
Wheat 16.67 1 16.67 21.67 2.17 12.1 3.17
Soybeans 30 3 10 33 3.3 10 6.3
Squash 27.5 1.5 18.3 33 3.3 12.6 4.8
Pumpkin 135 6 22.5 69 6.9 15.81 12.9
Artichokes 21.25 0.75 28.33 29.75 2.98 13.69 3.73
Rice 120 4 30 72 7.2 17.14 11.2
Cotton 30 1 30 39 3.9 14.08 4.9
Peppers 85 3 29.33 77 7.7 15.14 10.7
Pineapple 55 1.5 36.67 66 6.6 14.94 8.1
Watermelon 36.5 0.75 48.33 50.75 5.08 14.94 5.8
Potatoes 50 1 50 65 6.5 15.33 7.5
Since I’m sure some people are wondering. I’ll explain the whole tree thing in greater detail. My process was much the same for all the other scenarios which is why I have not provided the details for them.

Scenario 3
Trees and soybeans Last we assume that we have a cherry tree farm as has been proposed by Eric
The most effective use of space is a double row followed by a space. Breaking this down into 4×4 squares we get 4 basic shapes. The triple row, the double row, the triple row endcap and the double row end cap.
The triple endcaps can each hold 16-7 = 9 trees
The triple rows can eacn hold = 16-4 = 12 trees
The double rows can each hold = 16-8 = 8 trees
the double row endcap can each hold = 16-10 = 6 trees
Now, if we were to only fill the same space as the fields (to be a fair comparison, but you could fill more) that gives us space for 12 of each end cap and 60 of each row type. So that we can still level, we will replace one set of end caps with fields This way we can still reach all of the trees and we can still earn xp.
This arrangement would allow for 9×6 + 12×60 + 8×60 + 6×6 = 1290 trees
While I will admit this may seem horribly impractical, keep in mind that you can que up your trees. Even if you are an incredibly slow clicker and it takes you 2 sec per click per tree it would only take you 43 minutes to click though all the trees. 2 seconds per click is desperately slow btw. Most people should be able to click 6 to 8 times every 2 seconds. So you’re not spending much time clicking on the trees. However, you might want to find something else to do for awhile after you’re done clicking and your avatar runs around harvesting everything.
Anyway, 1290 cherry trees would yield $23220
however, to be fair because this can only done once every 2 days, we will assume you only see half that much each day. Now, we take that money and can invest all of it into soybeans which will yield 1161 xp and will leave us with $0. Assuming we leave our fields completely fallow between harvests. If we plant peppers we would get an extra 36 xp and $1,944. Reinvesting this much while still having enough to plant peppers would leave us at the end of it all with 1,389 xp and $24

Conclusions So, in the end, basically if you just plant and harvest strawberries as much as possible you’ll level relatively quickly. When coupled with power leveling you can level very fast.
However, if money is what you are after. the more you can fill your farm with trees the more money you will make. Ideally, you would want to fill it with the higher level gifted trees. But because you can only get one of these each day it would take a far too long to replace a substantial portion of your farm with trees strictly by gifting. Buying trees of course will help you fill your farm with trees faster. but you should replace them with the gifted trees/animals as you get them since you will get even more money from them.
The only downside is that the more trees/animals your effectiveness at leveling via strawberries decreases. course even if you only have 12 fields left it’s only cut by half.
